Job Description
As an Operational Excellence Manager with Virgin Galactic, you will be responsible for leading processes and performance metrics in support of the Supply Chain function and Operational Excellence.
Supply Chain – You will be accountable for the development of a dashboard for visibility on supplier performance metrics, management of the SIOP, creation and management of a standard management operating system (MOS) and providing leadership for supplier development engineers. Your role will ensure that processes controlling our procure to pay (P2P) functions are consistent and appropriate for supporting the function. This is a key leadership role that will help to set the course for the future of the supply chain.
Operational Excellence – Define/Report Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) in support to Program Management requirements and Technical Performance Measure (TPM) supporting technical management requirements. Accountable to develop both KPI and TPM dashboards for Executive Program visibility. This is a people leadership position with responsibility for at least one product data specialist.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, lead, communicate and execute the Management Operating System (MOS) to support the Supply Chain Function.
- Create and consistently publish core metrics for supplier and program performance and additional metrics governing internal operations. i.e. inventory, cycle counts, PMR completion, PR to PO conversion, program and technical performance
- Lead, mentor, develop, and empower the supplier development engineering team to maintain a high performing supply base including strong cost/service performance and strong engagement/service mentality with stakeholders.
- Lead, mentor, develop program data specialist to ensure data collection and reporting accurately depict program and technical performance
- Partner with functions/budget owners to develop and maintain the sourcing process including supplier identification, competitive bidding, negotiations, selection, contracting, and performance management.
- Provide leadership and guidance to the teams to create commodity road maps enabling the achievement of critical business targets as well as improving ease of business on a repetitive basis.
- Lead by example through Virgin Galactic’s values, in with respect to straight-up way which fosters, transparent, and open communication.
- Lead the full supply chain team through annual strategy development and development of a 5-yr strategic plan.
- Maintain alignment with Senior Leadership and adjust for business changes
- Act as the Supply Chain Chief of Staff – Become fully integrated with Supply Chain team, interfacing with multiple team members providing recommendations and helping them look at problems differently, sharing tactics to solving problems and jumping in to help with actions as needed.
- Must be able to take full ownership of responsibilities including capturing precise meeting/event minutes and notes, reserving conference rooms, coordinating facilities, and catering requirements as needed. May delegate some tasks but must verify and check to make sure all is set and ready for action.
Required Skills and Experience
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution, preference given to supply chain, engineering
- 10 years of industry experience in progressive technical and leadership roles including at least 5 years’ in strategic sourcing
- Ability, willingness to travel depending on business needs and engagement with the supply chain, technical, and program management.
- Able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and thrive in a complex product development environment with multiple priorities as well as a disciplined production setting
- Experience with IMP/IMS, risk management, configuration management, requirements management processes
- Excellent verbal and written communication, excellent computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, Project, PowerPoint and Monday.com.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a high attention to detail.
- Team player with excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Working knowledge of global supply chain, technical, and program management issues and practices.
- Strong presentation skills, and ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with various internal and external stakeholders.
- Ability to evaluate, prioritize and work a variety of tasks to ensure their timely and accurate completion.
- Strong understand and able to lead Six Sigma methodologies such as Root Cause and Corrective Actions, Process mapping, Value Stream efficiencies, Lead teams in SIPOC (Supplier, Input, Process, Output, Customer) development, and document process improvements.

The annual U.S. base salary range for this full-time position is $85,900.00–$130,900.00. The base pay actually offered will vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, location, and experience and take into account internal equity. Other forms of pay (e.g., bonus or long term incentive) may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and other benefits, dependent on the position offered.
