Summary of Responsibilities

The Goddard Child Development Center (GCDC) is seeking to hire an experienced Director of Operations to build a sense of belonging with everyone entering the center and initiate new family relationships. GCDC is licensed to care for 129 children, ages 2-pre-Kindergarten. GCDC is located on the Greenbelt, Maryland Campus of NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center.

The GCDC Director of Operations: will supervise and oversee business operations, handle community outreach, GCDC Parent Board and family engagement, ensure health and safety measures are adhered to, and create overall culture of support within GCDC for children and families. Promote a positive image of the center and interpret GCDC’s standards, policies, and procedures to families; and uphold GCDC’s great reputation and service for Goddard Space Flight Center’s workforce.

The GCDC Director of Operations shall have demonstrable experience in managing all aspects of a day care or childcare center or nursery school, as well as strong leadership and customer service skills, and professionalism. The Operations Director must work collaboratively with NASA management, have a love for children, and strive to create a supportive and encouraging learning environment for both children and GCDC staff.

GCDC Director of Operations Responsibilities include, but not limited to, the following:

  • Effectively operates and manages all business aspects of a childcare school, to include human resources, customer relations, financial systems, quality control and facility management
  • Manage center budget; ensure billing and collection procedures are completed accurately and in a timely manner
  • Collaborate to implement various strategies for boosting and maintaining enrollment
  • Cultivate an environment committed to health and safety compliance
  • Report incidents, accidents to NASA leadership, MSDE licensing and take appropriate responsive actions
  • Respond to parent inquires and concerns, in complexity, and in a variety of early childcare matters and environment.

· Establish positive working relationships and communicate effectively with administration, staff, parents, children, and other members of the school and leadership

· Create and disseminate all parent communications, i.e., annual parent handbook, week/monthly notices, event information, announcements, and monthly snack menus.

· Collaborate with GCDC’s parent board to enhance the center’s programs and resources, themed events, and fundraising activities

· Work with NASA management to develop parent policy and, once approved, implement the philosophy, policies, procedures and operations, exercising responsible professional judgement and technical skill

· Complete ongoing training and courses to remain up-to-date on childcare standards- and procedures

· Meet regularly with NASA management and periodically with the GCDC Board

Education Requirements:

· Bachelor’s Degree in the field of early childhood education, elementary education and/or business administration

· Hold current certification in Pediatric First Aid and CPR

Experience Requirements: 7+ years of experience in childcare, early childhood and/or business management

· Strong organizational and communications skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks and crises situations effectively

· Excellent written and oral communications skills

· Manage stressful situations calmly and professionally

· Must demonstrate financial management and organizational skills

· Strong operations management skills to ensure efficient business operations

· Strategic planning expertise to drive organizational success

· Experience working in cross-functional teams with an ability to build consensus among multiple stakeholders in a face-paced environment

· Ability to ensure school resources are planned for, identified, and allocated appropriately to meet the program requirements on time, on budget, and in a high-quality manner

· Strong program and project management, interpersonal, and analytical skills

· Ability to pass state and federal education background checks, as well as meet government and citizenship/permanent residency requirements for access to NASA Goddard facility

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $70,000.00 – $75,000.00 per year
