Job Description

Hermeus is an aerospace and defense technology company founded to radically accelerate air travel by delivering hypersonic aircraft. The company aims to develop hypersonic aircraft quickly and cost-effectively by integrating hardware-rich, iterative development with modern computing and autonomy. This approach has been validated through design, build, and test of the company’s first combined turbojet-ramjet engine and is now being scaled through its first flight vehicle program, Quarterhorse. Hermeus is also developing Darkhorse — an uncrewed hypersonic aircraft designed to deliver unique asymmetric capabilities to the warfighter.

As the Facilities Manager at Hermeus in Jacksonville, FL, you will play a crucial role in the build-out of our jet engine test facilities buildings, inclusive of enhancing and maintaining the functionality of our facilities. The ideal candidate will have aerospace experience and possess both strategic and tactical skills, including sense of urgency, prioritization, and leadership skills.

Responsibilities

  • Facilities Planning and Design: Collaborate with architects, engineers, and project managers to design and plan aerospace test facilities, including engine test cells, office areas and Hush house. Ensure facilities meet industry standards for safety, efficiency, and functionality.
  • Construction Management: Oversee the construction and renovation of the facilities, including managing contractors, scheduling, budgeting, and ensuring compliance with building codes and regulations. Coordinate with internal stakeholders to minimize disruptions to ongoing operations.
  • Equipment Installation and Maintenance: Coordinate the installation, maintenance, and repair of specialized aerospace equipment, such as electrical, fuel, plumbing, exhaust, and environmental control systems. Develop and implement preventive maintenance programs to ensure equipment reliability and uptime.
  • Utilities Management: Manage utilities infrastructure, including electrical, plumbing, HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning), and compressed air systems. Optimize energy efficiency, reliability, and sustainability of utility systems while minimizing operational costs.
  • Safety and Compliance: Ensure facilities comply with relevant safety regulations, including OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) standards, environmental regulations, and industry-specific requirements such as AS9100. Develop and implement safety protocols, conduct regular inspections, and oversee emergency preparedness procedures.
  • Space Planning and Optimization: Optimize the layout and utilization of facilities to maximize productivity, workflow efficiency, and employee comfort. Analyze space utilization data, identify opportunities for improvement, and implement solutions to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Environmental Sustainability: Develop and implement initiatives to reduce the environmental impact of aerospace facilities, including waste reduction, recycling programs, energy conservation measures, and sustainable design practices.
  • Emergency Response and Continuity Planning: Develop and maintain emergency response plans to address potential threats to facility operations, such as natural disasters, power outages, and security incidents. Coordinate with relevant stakeholders to ensure business continuity and minimize disruptions.
  • Vendor Management: Manage relationships with vendors, contractors, and service providers involved in facility maintenance, repairs, and construction projects. Negotiate contracts, oversee service quality, and ensure compliance with contractual obligations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Facilities Management, or a related field. Advanced degree or professional certifications (e.g., Professional Engineer, Certified Facility Manager) preferred.
  • 10 years’ experience as a Facilities Manager leading teams in the Aerospace or similar industry.
  • Previous experience in facilities management, construction project management, or related roles, preferably in the aerospace or manufacturing industry.
  • Strong understanding of building systems, construction techniques, and facility maintenance best practices.
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements and industry standards relevant to aerospace facilities, such as AS9100, ISO 14001, and NFPA.
  • Knowledge in project management software, CAD (Computer-Aided Design) software, and facility management systems.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a focus on continuous improvement and operational excellence.
  • Commitment to safety, environmental sustainability, and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Experience working with and around jet engines a plus.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift and carry heavy objects.
  • Comfortable working at heights and in confined spaces.
  • Physical dexterity for using hand and power tools.
  • Ability to work at local Jacksonville, FL Hermeus site.
  • Minimal travel to other Hermeus sites may be required.
