Aerospace Engineer, AST, Pyrotechnic Systems (Direct Hire)

Summary

The Energy Conversion Systems Branch (EP3) is currently seeking a candidate to serve as a Pyrotechnics Engineer and Project Manager. You will have knowledge of pyrotechnic systems, pyrotechnic devices, and firing circuits and be responsible for project management execution and leadership for the projects comprising the pyrotechnics portfolio, including managing project schedules, budgets, and resource allocations to ensure design, development, testing, verification, and certification activities.

In addition to the Basic Education Requirement (in the Education section below), to qualify for this position you must meet the requirements below. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. NASA utilizes OPM-approved qualification and rating requirements specific for Aerospace Technology (AST) positions which recognizes NASA’s unique aerospace work. The specific qualifications and minimum education requirements are further described below and within the education section of the job announcement. To qualify for GS-14, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 level: Providing Subject Matter Expertise for pyrotechnic components such as initiators, detonators, safe and arm (S&A) devices, explosive transfer lines (ETL), shaped charges, frangible devices, riser cutters, cartridge actuated devices/propellant actuated devices (CAD/PAD), and mechanically actuated devices; Providing project management and controls as applied to successful management of a project to baseline requirements, schedule, cost phasing, or resources; Communicating and integrating across organizational or programmatic boundaries, at all technical and managerial levels, in either verbal or written form.
