Our Space Systems team is made up of engineers, technicians, and designers who design, create, and put together our own satellites for missions across the commercial, government, and defense sectors, or who build and assemble satellite hardware and software that supports other satellite missions.HARDWARE IN THE LOOP (HITL) MANAGERBased out of Rocket Lab’s global headquarters in Long Beach, the Hardware In The Loop (HITL) Manager is responsible for designing, building, running and maintaining our numerous HITL and FlatSat systems
This role requires a mixture of Avionics, Software, and Test experience and a deep understanding of the integration of these components as a working system
The HITL platform is the first “spacecraft” of any program to be built and will “fly” thousands of missions before the first flight hardware will get to orbit
The ideal candidate will be able to lead a team to actively uncover bugs and defects in the system, document meticulously, and report to the respective engineering teams
They are a key contributor to driving quality into the product and overall mission success.WHAT YOU’LL GET TO DO:Lead a team to design, build, and maintain HITL Test Platforms and FlatSats.Develop and run test procedures to exercise software and hardware as it is developedDefine the bar for HITL configuration management quality standardsWork with the New Zealand HITL team to standardize HITL processes and automationCreate and maintain project schedules, meet program milestones, and lead a multi-functional development teamYOU’LL BRING THESE QUALIFICATIONS:Bachelor’s degree in electrical, computer, or software engineering or similar applicable engineering discipline8+ years of experience with hardware or software developmentExperience writing rigorous test proceduresMeticulous with configuration management and documentationTHESE QUALIFICATIONS WOULD BE NICE TO HAVE:Prior experience working on a HITL test, Avionics test, or Software test teamHave the mindset of actively finding the flaws in the codePrior project management experience, juggling multiple timelines and milestonesExperience with electrical hardware debuggingExperience with harness design and buildExperience in aerospace or automotive industriesExperience generating test reports for customers, including government agenciesADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focusRegularly required to sit, use hands and fingers, operate computer keyboard and controls, and communicate verbally and in writingMust be physically able to commute to buildings Occasional exposure to dust, fumes and moderate levels of noiseThe expected salary range for the position is displayed in accordance with the California Equal Pay for Equal Work Act
Final agreed upon compensation is based upon individual qualifications and experience. Base salary is only one part of Rocket Lab’s compensation package for this role
