Job Summary
As a Lead Production Engineer, you will lead a team of Production Engineers supporting both manufacturing and supply chain. You will be responsible for leveraging design for manufacturability and continuous improvement to deliver space-grade hardware at high rate and low cost, without ever compromising personnel safety or product reliability. You will serve as the advocate for the team and the technical subject matter expert for the greater production and supply chain organization to ensure that they have the resources they need to succeed. A successful candidate for this role will demonstrate excellent communication skills, integrity, intellectual curiosity, empathy, technical capability, and a strong motivation to support the team.
This position’s internal job code is Manufacturing Engineer. Our team is currently hiring for level 4.
Responsibilities
- Serve as primary contact for your Production Engineering scope.
- Provide mentorship and guidance to each member of the team via 1:1s
- Advocate for the team and cultivate an environment where they can be successful.
- Manage communication within the team by providing context/rationale for higher level decisions.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to create and maintain work instructions, bills of materials, standard operating procedures, etc. in support of manufacturing and supply chain execution.
- Act as the liaison between design engineering, programs, manufacturing, and supply chain.
- Leverage cross-functional relationships to help identify improvement opportunities, align on priorities, and execute initiatives to reduce lead time, labor hours, etc. both within internal and external manufacturing processes.
- Identify, implement, and qualify manufacturing equipment and processes in support of high reliability production that enables our throughput targets
- Partner with peer engineering teams to implement design changes in response to manufacturing and supply chain issues, customer challenges, new vehicle architectures, and departmental standardization initiatives.
- Establish and increase the efficiency of business processes to maximize output, limit burden, and enable products to rapidly transition from engineering development to high-rate production.
- Leverage data to establish, monitor, and improve manufacturing and supply chain metrics enveloping safety, quality, delivery, and cost.
- Serve as the technical subject matter expert for training requirements and capability expansion throughout manufacturing and supply chain.
- Coordinate and implement new engineering principles, theories, advanced technologies, and concepts.
- Enable manufacturing and supply chain autonomy by challenging requirements, simplifying work processes, and automating actions.
- Effectively address tactical, day to day issues by troubleshooting and identifying ultimate root cause, then implement permanent corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in an Engineering discipline (ABET accreditation required).
- 5+ years’ experience in structures/propulsion manufacturing engineering in Aerospace, Automotive, or Commercial industries.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret engineering drawings, technical manuals and policies and recommend changes to procedures.
- Familiarity with PCBA manufacturing, electromechanical assembly, propulsion production, mechanisms fabrication, or structures build.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated technical problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated ability to aggregate, visualize, and analyze data to make informed decisions (i.e. SQL, Excel, PowerBI, etc.)
- Competent with CAD software (SolidWorks preferred)
- Ability to effectively communicate with engineering, production, and leadership.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in an Engineering discipline (ABET accreditation required).
- Thorough understanding of root cause analysis and related analytical methodology (Five Whys, Fishbone/Ishikawa Analysis, 8D, etc.).
- Understands and utilizes theories, principles, and practices of engineering and project management methods.
- Aerospace and/or DOD Experience.
- Capital project management experience.
- Background in Lean Manufacturing/Process Improvement
- Functional knowledge of welding principles and NDT techniques for material evaluation.
- Demonstrated ability to scale manufacturing rate capability.

Summary Pay-Range
- Level 4: $117,300 – $172,500
