SUMMARY: Our team is looking for an energetic and dynamic Advanced Concepts Engineer who will primarily be responsible for designing and developing advanced concepts, studies, and engineering special projects for Axiom Space’s advanced concept and development efforts. This position reports to Advanced Concepts & Development Manager. This role is onsite and will be based at our Space Station Development Facility (SSDF).

This position has multiple job openings (and may be filled at multiple levels).

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work as an individual to design, develop, and present advanced concepts.
  • Work with internal and external customers to assess the feasibility of an advanced concept.
  • Collaborate with the advanced concepts team and stakeholders to enable successful feasibility studies.
  • Give and receive productive feedback during collaboration with the advanced concepts team, stakeholders, and customers.
  • Collaborate effectively with other advanced concept engineers to integrate studies into larger concepts and developments.
  • Develop advanced concept presentations and demonstrations.
  • Author trade studies, conceptual papers, and other related assessments within the advanced concepts.
  • Participate on responses to government and commercial solicitations deemed competitively accessible to Axiom Space.
  • Develop and manage engineering special projects in support of Axiom Space’s major development programs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in math, physics, aerospace engineering or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in space systems or complex system development.
  • Experience with developing system of systems and related integration efforts.
  • Familiarity with Python or MATLAB for analytical problem solving.
  • Experience casting physical problems as mathematical problems.
  • Demonstratable knowledge of the space exploration industry.
  • Experience working with stakeholders and customers.
  • One or more of the following:
    • Experience authoring and publishing papers.
    • Experience developing conceptual analyses.
    • Experience with modelling in CAD.
  • Experience developing products in an Agile development process.

Preferred Experience

  • Master’s Degree in math, physics, aerospace engineering or related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in space systems or complex system development.
  • Experience with advanced concept development.
  • Demonstratable expertise in Python or MATLAB for analytical problem solving.
  • Experience with 3D printing and other methods of rapid prototyping.

Essential Functions

Work Environment: Generally, an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on the task.

Requirements

  • Must be able to complete a U.S. government background investigation.
  • Management has the prerogative to select at any level for which the position is advertised.
  • Proof of U.S. Citizenship or US Permanent Residency is a requirement for this position.

Physical Requirements

  • Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of the time). May require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of the time).

Travel Requirements

  • National and international travel up to 10% of the time.
