Job Summary
As an Autonomy Engineer on the Mission & Autonomy Team, you will be the Responsible Engineering Authority (REA) for all Autonomy for a program, study, or proposal. You will define fault & autonomy requirements; define states, modes, and transitions; define and develop the fault & autonomy architecture for satellites/constellations, including fault-tolerance and redundancy requirements; define and analyze thresholds and persistence of on-board fault tests; design fault responses to ensure containment of failed hardware and health and safety of on-orbit satellites; provide tools and procedures for use during on-orbit mission operations; and support on-console mission operations for on-orbit spacecraft as a mission specialist. In addition to execution of technical design, analysis, and operation, you may be responsible for project management activities to support programs, ensuring that high-quality work products are delivered on-time.

Responsibilities

  • Perform fault and autonomy requirements definition, verification, and validation
  • Define satellite/constellation states, modes, and transitions
  • Contribute to architecture concepts, CONOPS, and technology trade-off analyses
  • Design autonomous spacecraft behaviors
  • Design and validate onboard fault detection, isolation, and response behaviors
  • Develop and utilize simulation platforms (e.g. Hardware-In-the-Loop) for testing/validation
  • Perform end-to-end validation of all fault and autonomy products
  • Develop and validate tools for on-orbit mission operations
  • Support on-console operations for on-orbit missions

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in engineering or the physical sciences / computer science
  • 2+ years of experience working in the aerospace industry
  • Familiarity with aerospace systems design and architecture
  • Experience with common analysis tools such as MATLAB/Simulink, Python, STK, etc.
  • Ability to anticipate effects and interactions for varying cases across a complex system
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail while maintaining big-picture perspective
  • Ability to obtain TS/SCI clearance

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5+ years experience in satellite design and/or operation
  • Experience with fault-tolerance strategies and architectures for safety and mission critical systems
  • Experience with autonomous system design, analysis, and test
  • Experience with fault management architectures including design principles and requirements
  • Experience with redundancy architecture, including cross-strapping and fault containment regions for integrated systems
  • Ability to plan and execute integrated system Fault Management and Autonomy Verification and Validation
  • Experience in modeling and simulation of satellite systems
  • Experience with satellite end-to-end testing
  • Experience with Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) testing
  • Experience with Software-in-the-Loop (SIL) testing
  • Experience with satellite mission operations
  • Possess active TS/SCI clearance

Summary Pay-Range

  • Level 3: $108,800 – $160,000
