Serve as a senior Artificial Intelligence (AI) expert. Informs NASA’s AI strategy, planning, policy, and governance. Provides direct support to the Chief AI and Data Officer on AI topics and develops AI implementation plans to maximize value while managing risks. Builds cross-agency relationships; develops shared awareness; equips the workforce with tools and training; and assures responsible AI use. Advances the adoption of AI to bolster Mission effectiveness and create efficiencies.

Duties
- Serve as the senior advisor for Artificial Intelligence (AI) to the Chief AI Officer, other agency officials, and agency senior decision-making forums, on a full range of AI topics leading to innovative, responsible, and ethical use of AI.
- Collaboratively develop a portfolio of AI capabilities and lead cross functional teams to accelerate the integration of AI capabilities; propel AI use-case exploration and adoption; identify and remove barriers to agency AI innovation and adoption.
- Draft and publish AI strategy, policy, and related documents to guide agency adoption in a safe, secure, responsible manner that enhance the NASA mission and align with federal directives, executive orders, and laws.
- Institute and manage agency AI oversight, such as a senior AI governance board, an AI working group, or similar; to enable responsible use of AI as required by executive orders and OMB directives, in coordination with relevant agency officials.
- Develop and oversee AI learning programs that prepare the NASA workforce to gain maximum value from AI capabilities while also assuring responsible and ethical use.
- Lead NASA’s recurring AI inventory to meet federal AI reporting needs and facilitate AI teamwork across NASA; guide the assessment of safety- or rights-impacting AI use and establish control mechanisms to govern their oversight and use.
- Develop external partnerships with other government agencies, industry, and academia to identify AI capabilities, opportunities, and best practices; leverage gained knowledge to accelerate value across NASA and build trust with mission stakeholders.
- Participate in Federal AI bodies on behalf of NASA, such as the Chief AI Officer Council or subordinate working groups; develop cross-government relationships to learn from others and share NASA approaches.

Qualifications
Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.
To qualify for GS-15, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-14 level:
- Applying advanced technical or policy knowledge in Artificial Intelligence or Machine Learning (AI/ML) for developing and implementing Artificial Intelligence (AI) strategies, governance boards, and policies;
- Guiding and tracking the integration of technology or products that use or apply AI/ML which may include neural networks, high performance computing (HPC), or other advance data science technologies, frameworks, models, systems, human-machine interfaces, or applications in an organization;
- Leading interdepartmental teamwork and collaboration that enable accomplishment of organizational AI objectives.

Education
Basic Requirement:
You must have successfully completed a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor’s or higher degree.

OR
Have a combination of education and experience equivalent to a major field of study (30 semester hours) equivalent to one of the majors shown above, plus additional education or appropriate experience.
