We are hiring a Direct Access Operations Engineer to join our Direct Access and Remote Systems team, which runs the Direct Access Program in Westminster, CO. About the mission: Direct Access provides customers with the capability to task the Maxar satellites directly, and receive, process, host, and disseminate their own image data through Maxar-delivered ground systems. The DAOE team’s goal is to ensure that Maxar’s initiatives are met for the Corporate, and International Defense & Intelligence Direct Access program. The contribution to this goal is to manage and maintain successful operations for all defense, intelligence, and commercial Direct Access Facility (DAF) customers with their ground stations utilizing the world’s most advanced satellites. Your Project: In this role, you will be a member of the Deployed Systems engineering team, which is responsible for the full Systems Engineering lifecycle for the Direct Access systems. You will be responsible for sustainment of the operational Direct Access system across our customer base, including: order management, mission planning mission management, contact management, production, and dissemination and delivery. Responsibilities include daily interaction with operational customers for issue resolution, engagement with internal systems engineers, subject matter experts, and software/system suppliers to resolve system issues, functional testing of software patches, and managing deployment of operational software.Additionally, you will support systems engineers in the development of new capabilities, supporting test events as a test engineer. In addition, onsite customer system deliveries, system training and follow on system support as an operational engineer with a focus area of the DAF Platform system and mission software. In order to be successful in this role, you must be growth oriented to learn new systems and take on new challenges, be motivated to serve our customers, have experience supporting satellite ground system operations, and can work cooperatively with other subject matter experts to effectively convey problems and address system level challenges. Rotational on-call support is required. Some international travel is required in support of new system deploys as well as customer engagement and operational system acceptance.

Responsibilities:

  • Serve in a technical role leading the operational sustainment of assigned subsystems across the Direct Access systems.
  • Work with internal development teams and external vendors to prioritize and work solutions for operational issues and enhancement requests.
  • Lead testing and validation of operational software patches, including managing deployment to operational sites.
  • Support systems engineers and project managers as test engineering during non-recurring and recurring engineering efforts.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen and be willing and able to obtain a Secret security clearance.
  • 5 + years’ experience in satellite ground systems engineering or strong experience in broader systems engineering functions.
  • 3+ years’ Platform specific engineering experience including Kubernetes and/or Cloud based Web Services
  • Bachelor degree in systems engineering or other engineering/computer science related field. Four additional years of experience may be substituted for a degree.
  • Ability to travel internationally as required (estimated 1-6 trips annually with a duration of a week or more each trip).
  • Foundational understanding of satellite ground system components and operational concepts.
  • Strong listening, verbal, and written communication skills, which include customer communication and technical writing.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and identify root cause of operational issues and drive to resolution with internal stakeholders and system developers.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience supporting operational satellite ground systems.
  • Ability to work methodically to identify issues and develop solutions.
  • Experience testing complex satellite ground systems.
  • Ability to understand, follow, and execute rigorous integration and test requirements, cases, and plans.
  • Ability to document detailed training materials.
  • Ability to grasp and contribute to system solutions that will meet the needs of customers.
  • Understand computer systems and architectures including Windows, Linux, Docker, and scripting.
  • Team player – ability to work across multiple functional organizations and across cultures.
  • Hands on person with a growth-oriented mindset.

Our salary ranges are market-driven and set to allow for flexibility. Individual pay will be competitive based on a candidate’s unique set of knowledge, skills, and geographic diversity, with earnings potential commensurate with experience. The range for this position is:

$87,000.00 – $145,000.00 annually.
