OVERVIEW

Starport NASA Exchange-JSC (aka Starport) is seeking a highly motivated and energetic individual to serve as a Facility Specialist at NASA’s Johnson Space Center (JSC) reporting to the Facility Manager.

Starport’s mission is to empower lives and promote the overall wellbeing of the JSC Team. Starport Services is a quality-of-life program that directly supports the mission of the Johnson Space Center by providing a welcoming experience, modern and flexible amenities, and inclusive services to engage, enrich, and energize the JSC Team. Included are fitness and recreational services, wellness programs, food and vending services, retail operations, employee activities and convenience services. These activities and services enhance work life, promote mental and physical fitness, and generally provide a working environment at JSC that helps to attract and retain quality employees.

Starport is a non-appropriated funded program and is financially self-sustaining with minimal outside support. All money earned through Starport operations is used to support JSC employee services and activities. The Facility Specialist will provide the physical labor required to efficiently maintain athletic playing fields, conference facility, fitness center, cafeteria and adjacent areas in a safe manner.

Responsibilities:

· Provides high touch point cleaning throughout the day, as instructed, in all Starport buildings

· General room setup and breakdown for conference planning, recreation, and fitness programming support.

· Performs and records weekly checks on various related indoor and outdoor sports facilities and areas for the purpose of maintaining safe participant and spectator conditions.

· Maintains tools and equipment in proper working condition by performing minor maintenance as needed.

· Assist in supplemental maintenance and custodial responsibilities as needed.

· May performs other related maintenance work as needed, such as mowing, edging, marking playing fields, replacing volleyball/soccer nets, removing standing water off playing fields, etc.

· Utilizes safety equipment and related work articles in a proper manner while performing various assigned tasks.

· Reports any job site problems or concerns to supervisor as soon as possible.

· Maintains quality standards on each assigned task.

· Applies knowledge of standardized and accepted facilities maintenance procedures and techniques in the athletic, fitness, recreation, conference facility and food service industry in accordance with company approved safety practices and policies.

· Adheres to all company policies and procedures paying special attention to all health and safety procedures and reporting all occupational injuries or illnesses to supervisor immediately.

· Maintains a clean and safe work environment at all times.

· Demonstrates a positive attitude through courtesy, service, cooperation, hospitality, sensitivity, and professionalism to program customers.

· Attend scheduled meetings and required training.

· Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

· Must be 18 years or older

· Must be a U.S. Citizen

· Must possess a valid Driver’s License

· High school graduate or GED

· One year experience in general maintenance and/or athletic field maintenance preferred

· Experience working in a fitness center, conference facility, recreation or corporate wellness environment preferred

· Subject to full criminal background check

· Subject to random drug testing

· Ability to interpret and follow daily work instructions according to the assigned work schedule of supervisor, and applies sound judgment to operate equipment safely, as well as to prevent problems.

· Ability to read and write in English

· Ability to speak Spanish helpful

Physical Requirements:

· Regular lifting up to 50 pounds

· Ability to stoop, bend, kneel, squat, climb, crawl, push, pull, stand or walk or perform other physical activities for extended periods of time

· Ability work in normal seasonal weather conditions while performing outdoor task

· Ability to work flexible schedule including evenings and weekends

Certifications – Company paid (must be able to obtain all within first 30 days of employment):

· Certified in CPR/AED and First Aid HASC (Houston Area Safety Council) Basic Plus Certification

· HASC (Houston Area Safety Council) Basic Plus Certification

· HASC (Houston Area Safety Council) JSC Site Specific Certification

· JSC Food Handlers Physical

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $15.00 – $16.75 per hour

Expected hours: No more than 29 per week
