Manager, Safety Process Assurance

Job Description

Virgin Galactic is seeking a talented and motivated Safety Assurance Manager to join our team. The ideal candidate will be able to perform the responsibilities of the position and meet many of the Knowledge/Experience requirements.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage and lead the Virgin Galactic Safety Process Assurance team.
  • Develop and maintain safety process assurance plans and processes. The safety process assurance team has responsibility to audit and assist other teams in maintaining compliance in the following key areas:
    • Launch operator’s licensing against 14 CFR Part 400 regulations.
    • Company policies, processes and procedures that support the company’s Safety Management System (SMS).
    • Computing system development assurance levels are achieved and maintained.
  • Develop and manage a department budget
  • Participate in, lead or direct anomaly investigations using root cause analysis methods.
  • Report non-compliance and audit findings to senior management.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Minimum of 8 years of overall experience within Safety Process Assurance, and minimum of 2 years of leadership experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics field.
  • Strong experience in developing technical documentation, writing reports and communicating metrics.
  • Must be self-motivated and capable of working with minimal supervision to manage a functional team, adaptable to changing environments, and able to handle multiple tasks and/or projects simultaneously
  • Must be able to justify decisions with available information and to achieve buy in from peers
  • Familiarity with system safety processes and how that integrates with engineering design and development processes like what is described in SAE ARP 4754A and 4761.

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Knowledge of FAA commercial space regulations preferred, CFR §400.
  • Project management skills
  • Flight operations experience within an aerospace organization
  • Previous OEM aircraft manufacturing or overhaul operations experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Must have above-average software: MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook

The annual U.S. base salary range for this full-time position is $96,600.00–$147,300.00. The base pay actually offered will vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, location, and experience and take into account internal equity. Other forms of pay (e.g., bonus or long term incentive) may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and other benefits, dependent on the position offered.
