Job Description
Serves as a Senior Materials Engineer in the Materials Engineering Branch and serves as a subject matter expert in metallic materials, as well as the primary technical point of contact in this subject area. Your work will involve providing technical expertise on the selection, application, evaluation, and analysis of metallic materials used in aircraft and spacecraft. You will review, advise on, and conduct analysis, development, and trade studies in support of major aerospace programs. In addition to the Basic Education Requirement (in the Education section below), to qualify for this position you must meet the requirements below and have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade, which has equipped you with the particular competencies needed to successfully perform the duties of the position described above.

To qualify for GS-15, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-14 level:
- Implementing requirements for use of metallic materials in space, and providing technical expertise in metallic material selection and applications to flight project engineering teams;
- Leading studies in metallic materials for flight hardware, using results from testing and analysis that may include: metallography, mechanical properties testing, microscopy, or non-destructive evaluation;
- Providing input to flight project engineering teams on manufacturing and processing associated with the production of metallic parts, that may include: additive manufacturing.
