Job Description
NASA Federal Credit Union is in search of an experienced Network Administrator to install and configure enterprise computer networks and systems in compliance with industry standard practices. The Network Administrator will analyze, test, and evaluate network systems, such as local area networks (LAN), wide area networks (WAN) and other communication systems to ensure peak performance for maximizing efficiency for service staff and members. This position will set up, configure, and support internal and external networks. It will research and recommend network and data communication hardware and software and maintain all system and network configurations. The Network Administrator will monitor the networks to ensure network availability to all system users and performs necessary maintenance to support network availability including recommending and installing upgrades, patches, and equipment. This position will also provide technical support and guidance for help desk, and users and work with Security Administrators to coordinate and implement network security measures.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: include the following with other duties as assigned.
Network Administrator I Duties
- Oversees installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of end user workstation hardware, software, security, and peripheral devices.
- Conducts research on network products, services, protocols, and standards in support of network procurement and development efforts.
- Evaluates options/methods to reduce cost, consolidate infrastructure,
- Assists with purchasing and recommends new technologies/equipment and upgrades to existing equipment.
- Supports all network hardware and equipment, including routers, switches, hubs, firewall and IPS utilizing vendor provided managed services when necessary.
- Ensures network connectivity of all workstations.
- Practices network asset management, including maintenance of network component inventory and related documentation and technical specifications information.
- Administers and maintains end user accounts, permissions, and access rights.
- Performs system backups and recovery.
- Monitors and maintains network infrastructure (e.g. servers, routers, switches, firewalls, VOIP phones, printers, and cabling), ensuring peak utilization of network resources and that quality of service and uptime goals are met.
- Recommends, schedules, and performs network improvements, upgrades, and repairs.
- Supports all existing data, voice, and internet circuits.
- Maintains the Microsoft Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, IIS (site creation and permissions and SSL certificate management) and Exchange infrastructure.
- Protects the integrity and security of the Credit Union network, data, and workstations.
- Stabilizes, Standardizes, and Simplifies (S3) technology infrastructure and applications to optimize support resources.
- Troubleshoots server and server application issues.
Network Administrator II Duties
- Network Administrator II includes all of Network Administrator 1 duties and the following:
- Maintains policies, procedures and associated training plans for network resource administration, appropriate use, and disaster recovery.
- Assists Security Administrator with yearly Security Certification.
- Maintains the collection, storage, security, and integrity of electronic data while ensuring appropriate access.
- Manages VMware Enterprise including SAN storage and replication.
- Interacts and negotiates with vendors, outsourcers, and contractors to secure network products and services.
- Manages all existing and new data, voice, and internet circuits.
- Troubleshoots network issues related to hardware and workload.
- Participates in on-call rotation.
Network Administrator III Duties
- Network Administrator III includes all of Network Administrator I & II duties and the following:
- Administers security patches and upgrades to VMWare hosts and SAN infrastructure.
- Analyzes workload, including traffic and utilization trends.
- Analyzes and controls the technical architecture of Local Area networks and Wide Area Networks.
- Controls and monitors VPN access to the network.
Education and/or Experience: Level I:
- Microsoft technical/ CompTIA Network + certification or work experience with Windows systems and software administration in a production environment.
- Associate degree in a related technology related field preferred.
- The Network Administrator I is expected to advance to Level II duties in a reasonable period of time.
Level II: Includes all requirements from Level I
- Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist or extensive experience with Windows systems and software administration in a production environment required.
- Bachelor’s Degree in a related technology related field preferred.
Level III: Includes all requirements from Level I and Level II
- Microsoft Certified System Engineer or expert experience with Windows systems and software administration in a production environment.
- Bachelor’s or Graduate’s Degree in a related technology related field preferred.
