Surgical Coordinator/Medical Assistant

NASA Bone & Joint Specialists (NBJS) is seeking a Full-time Surgical Coordinator/Medical Assistant to join our dynamic orthopedic team. NBJS is a fast-paced orthopedic and sports medicine practice providing quality care for southeast Houston for over 30 years. We’re looking for a customer-focused team player with a positive outlook to provide our physicians and patients the best quality care. This key member of the patient care team will directly assist physicians in the clinical setting daily.

Clinical Job Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate Surgical Schedule
  • Communicate with Hospital and Patients to coordinate care
  • Provide diagnostic and procedural coding for scheduled procedures
  • Obtain health clearances
  • Primary physician resource during clinic for patient history
  • Assist with physician messages
  • Assist with medication renewals
  • Assist with patient paperwork
  • Assists in preparations of equipment, supplies, to prepare staff and physicians for clinic.
  • Assists in immediate post-surgical care of the patient and of equipment in order to provide a continuum of quality patient care.
  • As needed:
  • Assists in planning and preparing for patient visits ensuring appropriate schedules, test results, equipment and supplies are available.
  • Rooms patients consistent with clinic needs while determining and documenting chief complaint and reason for visit, vital signs, medication list, allergies, smoking history and other information as required by clinic.
  • Assists with room turn-over and set-up as needed.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Ability to use computers and associated applications.
  • Proficient in the use of medical terminology.
  • Proficiency with clinical techniques and standards of care protocols
  • Strong sense of urgency to respond quickly and safely to changes in patient or environmental conditions

Education & Experience:

  • Formal medical assistant/surgical coordinator or one or more years recent clinical experience in area of expertise preferred but not required
  • Current CPR/BLS course completion preferred

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $18.00 – $24.00 per hour

Expected hours: 65 – 85 per week
